Greetings on this the Friday in the Octave of Easter
Readings continue with the impact of the healing of the beggar. As a result a large fellowship has occurred – about 5,000 in one day. At this point the disciples are interviewed by the leadership. The disciples repeat the teachings of Jesus and about Jesus.
This is of great concern to the entire leadership as it challenges their status as authority and power.
The person and the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean is declared by Peter to be the path of salvation. The one who was resurrected.
Sea of Tiberias
This is a word play intended to reveal the minds of the disciples and, for the author, the time of the writing of the Gospel.
Sea of Tiberias is most likely named after Tiberius Caesar Augustus, a roman emperor. The second roman emperor of the Imperial Period of the Roman Age. The dominant power of the world.
The Sea of Tiberias is also the Sea of Galilee. The name Sea of Galilee is a Jewish traditional name.
One name is with a mind toward Roman power.
The other name with a mind toward faith.
This was now the third time Jesus was revealed to his disciples after being raised from the dead.
One simply has to decide where the mind is to be, human power or faith power.
Peace be with you,
Deacon Gerry
