Baptismal GPS

Greetings on this the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome
Readings: Ez 47:1-2, 8-9, 12; PS 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9; 1 Cor 3:9c-11, 16-17; Jn 2:13-22
Notes: People travel everywhere.

I read that, on average, people move 11 times over the course of their life.

When Catholics are baptized the Church they are baptized in becomes their Baptismal Church.
All sacramental events are forwarded to the Baptismal Church for their sacramental records.

Sacramental records include: Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, and Holy Orders.
Other ledgers of the Baptismal Church include first Holy Communion and deaths, when known.

No matter where you are in the world, we try and keep accurate sacramental records in your home Church.

  • You have a baptismal home.
  • We all share the same home in St. John Lateran, Rome.

Reflection

Unlike the commemorations of other Roman churches, this anniversary is a feast. The dedication of a church is a feast for all its parishioners. In a sense, St. John Lateran is the parish church of all Catholics, because it is the pope’s cathedral. This church is the spiritual home of the people who are the Church.

First reading
The Temple home of all the faithful is in the person of Jesus who is the source and summit of our faith.
The corner stone is Jesus. The stones of the temple are the people.

From the Churches around the world… rest and refreshment for hungry hearts and thirsty souls

Every month they shall bear fresh fruit,
for they shall be watered by the flow from the sanctuary.
Their fruit shall serve for food, and their leaves for medicine.

Responsorial Psalm
The waters of the river gladden the city of God, the holy dwelling of the Most High!

Second reading
Brothers and sisters:
You are God’s building.
According to the grace of God given to me,
like a wise master builder I laid a foundation,
and another is building upon it.

From your baptismal home and our common home in St. John Lateran, Rome, come the person of Jesus Christ in Word and Sacrament. Especially, in the Most Holy Eucharist.

We build careful to be from the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus alone.

Alleluia Verse
I have chosen and consecrated this house, says the Lord,
that my name may be there forever.

Gospel Portion
Even today, those who occupy the Temple as squatters (false worship) are pushed out by the Lord.

They are about commerce and predatory financial practices, that is, personal gain in a profane way.
Until such time as they repent and reform, the Lord is always cleansing from within.

Note: I speak of ordinary grift and self-interested parties. Please keep me out of the bigger schism brewing. Although this scripture applies to that, the problem is all sides quote the same scripture to defend their position!

But he was speaking about the temple of his Body.

Therefore, when he was raised from the dead,
his disciples remembered that he had said this,
and they came to believe the Scripture
and the word Jesus had spoken.

  • It’s time to go Home.
  • Use your baptismal GPS.

Peace be with you,
Deacon Gerry
