Greetings on this the Feast of Saint Thomas, Apostle
Readings: Eph 2:19-22; Ps 117:1bc, 2; Jn 20:24-29
Notes: We are being transformed anew into the image and called to the likeness of God.
Our journey and sanctification are identical is several ways and yet unique to each of us individually.
- We are no longer strangers to G-d or to one another.
- Our journey in a certain way is over, we have seen the Lord.
- We are becoming a holy dwelling place for G-d in the Spirit.
- The Lord is pleased we have chosen faith over fear.
- We are in a radical unity and singular purpose.
Reflection
Thomas shares the lot of Peter the impetuous, James and John, the “sons of thunder,” Philip and his foolish request to see the Father—indeed all the apostles in their weakness and lack of understanding. We must not exaggerate these facts, however, for Christ did not pick worthless men. But their human weakness again points up the fact that holiness is a gift of God, not a human creation; it is given to ordinary men and women with weaknesses; it is God who gradually transforms the weaknesses into the image of Christ, the courageous, trusting, and loving one.
