Greetings on this the Monday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Readings: Gn 28:10-22a; Ps 91:1-2, 3-4, 14-15ab; Mt 9:18-26
Notes: We memorialize important events, places and actions.
- In today’s first reading, Jacob memorializes the visitation with stone, anointing oil and naming the place Bethel, “house of God”, because he saw the Lord there.
- In our responsorial the ‘shadow’ is an image of the safety afforded by the outstretched wings of the cherubim in the holy of holies (NABRE).
- Our gospel acclamation recalls Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life to light through the Gospel (“Good News”).
- In our gospel portion today, we memorialize (in Matthew and the gospel of Mark) Official’s Daughter and the Woman with a Hemorrhage and Jesus’ healing power.
In each of these cases, the LORD followed them, him or her.
We remember how the Lord took care of us in our need and we are grateful.
The Lord followed Jacob from Beer-sheba and toward Haran
Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.
- We need to remember Jesus follows us to those in need (Intercession, Intercede).
- We need to remember to follow Jesus to those in need (mission, Sent).
Both.

First Reading
When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he exclaimed, “Truly, the LORD is in this spot, although I did not know it!” In solemn wonder he cried out: “How awesome is this shrine! This is nothing else but an abode of God, and that is the gateway to heaven!”
Responsorial
In you, my God, I place my trust. You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, Say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Gospel Acclamation
Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life to light through the Gospel.
Gospel
The Official’s Daughter and the Woman with a Hemorrhage.
While he was saying these things to them, an official came forward, knelt down before him, and said, “My daughter has just died. But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live.” Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.
Peace be with you,
Deacon Gerry
