Speak without words

Greetings on this the Memorial of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, Virgin
Readings: Gn 46:1-7, 28-30; Ps 37:3-4, 18-19, 27-28, 39-40; Mt 10:16-23
Notes: For here the saying is verified that ‘One sows and another reaps (Jn 4:37).

Doing good can be uplifting in itself.
Doing good can be seemingly fruitless and without importance.

Do good anyway.

Speak with the conduct of your life as the greatest witness to good.
Trust all you do in the good is preserved forever and is very fruitful in its time.

Reflection (The entire writeup is worthy of your time, see link below).

We like to think that our proposed holiness is thwarted by our situation. If only we could have more solitude, less opposition, better health. Kateri Tekakwitha repeats the example of the saints: Holiness thrives on the cross, anywhere. Yet she did have what Christians—all people—need: the support of a community. She had a good mother, helpful priests, Christian friends. These were present in what we call primitive conditions, and blossomed in the age-old Christian triad of prayer, fasting and almsgiving: union with God in Jesus and the Spirit, self-discipline and often suffering, and charity for her brothers and sisters.

First Reading
And Israel said to Joseph, “At last I can die, now that I have seen for myself that Joseph is still alive.”

X-ref:

He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying: Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel (LK 2:27-32).

Responsorial
The salvation of the just comes from the Lord. Trust in the LORD and do good, that you may dwell in the land and be fed in security. Take delight in the LORD, and he will grant you your heart’s requests.

Gospel Acclamation
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you to all truth and remind you of all I told you.

Gospel
When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment what you are to say. For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

Peace be with you,
Deacon Gerry
