Greetings on this the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Readings: Jgs 6:11-24a; Ps 85:9, 11-12, 13-14; Mt 19:23-30
Notes:
Gideon
Gideon was in dire straits. Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press to save it from the Midianites. But: the messenger of the LORD appeared to him and said: The LORD is with you, you mighty warrior!
Mary
Mary was a young innocent virgin. But: Mary predestined to be the mother of Jesus. As Jesus was to be king of all creation, Mary, in dependence on Jesus, was to be queen.
Rich Man
Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of heaven. But: Jesus looked at them and said, “For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”
Apostles
A mixed bag of talent and capacity But: when the Son of Man is seated on his throne of glory, will yourselves sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Who then can be saved? Whoever has ears ought to hear.
Do you have ears?
You have been told, O mortal, what is good, and what the LORD requires of you: Only to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8).
Commentary: To do justice refers to human behavior in relationship to others. To love goodness refers to the kind of love and concern which is at the heart of the covenant between the Lord and Israel; it is persistently faithful. To walk humbly with your God means to listen carefully to the revealed will of God (NABRE, MI 6:8).

First Reading
The LORD turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have and save Israel from the power of Midian. It is I who send you.”
Responsorial
The Lord speaks of peace to his people.
I will hear what God proclaims;
the LORD–for he proclaims peace
To his people, and to his faithful ones,
and to those who put in him their hope.
Kindness and truth shall meet;
justice and peace shall kiss.
Truth shall spring out of the earth,
and justice shall look down from heaven.
The LORD himself will give his benefits;
our land shall yield its increase.
Justice shall walk before him,
and salvation, along the way of his steps.
Gospel Acclamation
Jesus Christ became poor although he was rich so that by his poverty you might become rich.
Gospel
Jesus looked at them and said, “For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”
Peace be with you,
Deacon Gerry
