Share in blood and flesh

Anna in the Temple

Greetings on this the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord
Readings: Mal 3:1-4; PS 24:7, 8, 9, 10; Heb 2:14-18; Lk 2:22-40

Notes

In today’s celebration of the Presentation of the Lord we have hope in Jesus because he shares in our flesh and blood. [Jesus] had to become like his brothers and sisters
in every way, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before God to expiate the sins of the people. Because he himself was tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested.

Summary

Who can help me but the one who knows me?

Reflection

Jesus makes known himself in the body and spirit in the temple presentation. Simeon and Anna, holy people, have a part in acknowledging the divine presence in the Son. Jesus suffered in his life in much the same ways we do, except without personal sin. He gets us. He gets me. He walks with us through this life journey.

Personal Reflection
Stethoscope

Today I have my annual physical. Fasting with blood work. My practitioner is a Nurse Practitioner whom I have seen since 1997. Lovely woman. Excellent medical practitioner.
She knows me. She has every insight I need to (1) Do self-care; and (2) prepare for my eventuality. I trust my soul to Jesus. I trust my body to Susan, NP.

First Reading

Thus says the Lord GOD: Lo, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me; And suddenly there will come to the temple the LORD whom you seek, And the messenger of the covenant whom you desire. Yes, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts.

Responsorial

Who is this king of glory? It is the Lord!

Second Reading

Since the children share in blood and flesh, Jesus likewise shared in them, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the Devil, and free those who through fear of death had been subject to slavery all their life.

Gospel Acclamation

A light of revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.

Gospel

When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.

[Simeon] came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God. And coming forward at that very time, [Anna] gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.

Peace be with you,
