Be holy because I am holy

Do justice, provide mercy, seek the face of God

Greetings on this the Tuesday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time
Readings: 1 Pt 1:10-16; Ps 98:1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4; Mk 10:28-31

Notes

The readings for the Tuesday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time today are identical to the readings on Fat Tuesday, March 1st, 2022. Think about it, on the final day of Ordinary Time before Lent 2022 has the identical focus for the 8th day after Pentecost, the end of the Easter season and the 8th week in ordinary time.

Said another way, the message going INTO Lent 2022 is the same message coming INTO Ordinary time 9 days after Pentecost 2024.

Summary

He who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in every aspect of your conduct, for it is written, Be holy because I am holy.

Reflection

Therefore, gird up the loins of your mind, live soberly, and set your hopes completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Personal Reflection

In our sacred Scripture today, as like on Fat Tuesday 2022, we are asked to decide to be holy as the Lord is holy. The Prophets learned all their suffering, toil and work wasn’t just for them but for us who would come thousands of years later. Thousands of years later! We, little ones of the Lord, have a similar task. To preach Jesus, Crucified and Resurrected, to seek justice and act mercifully. And, have confidence that love, mercy, truth and sincerity of heart will be remembered in some way or another a thousand years from now! Unnamed except for the name above every other name (Phil 2:9).

Whatever the season, Lent or Ordinary, we are called to be Holy. God provides the grace, the forgiveness, the wisdom and power. We provide the free will.

Fourteen years ago.

First Reading

Beloved: Concerning the salvation of your souls the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and investigated it investigating the time and circumstances that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated when it testified in advance to the sufferings destined for Christ and the glories to follow them. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you.

Responsorial

The Lord has made known his salvation.

Gospel Acclamation

Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom.

Gospel

Peter began to say to Jesus, “We have given up everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come.

Peace be with you,
Deacon Gerry
