Treasures

In today’s gospel portion Jesus instructs us to align our treasure with kingdom of heaven.

Here is the part usually missed. He is not saying have nothing on Earth and everything good will come later, after, death, and in heaven. While that is true it is not the fullness of what he is saying.

Jesus is saying that the Kingdom of Heaven is here on Earth. It is already being built. The Kingdom is here and now and forever (See Matt 4:17 and 10:7).

He then alerts us to the Light of his words. Put your EYES on the Kingdom.

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”

Summary

Our actions on Earth must conform to the heaven on Earth the Lord is building. Even here and now these treasures are safe, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. Of all the things to pick from and treasure, natural and supernatural, the better choice is the supernatural kingdom gifts and store.

Reflection

Don’t obsess with things, natural things, that can only provide a temporary relief. Instead surrender them and experience them here and now in the supernatural context, here and now and forever.

Personal Reflection

Lord, may all things be surrendered to you, natural good and supernatural good, for the benefit of the human family and to the Glory of God.

But Jehosheba, daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah, took Joash, his son, and spirited him away, along with his nurse, from the bedroom where the princes were about to be slain.
