Patient Patience

Greetings on this the Tuesday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time
Readings: Jer 14:17-22; Ps 79:8, 9, 11 and 13; Mt 13:36-43

Notes

In yesterday’s readings and gospel portion we are confronted with life’s difficulties and death. Jesus responds with the seventh sign in the gospel of John the raising of Lazarus. In today’s readings we are confronted with life’s difficulties and death. Jesus responds with The Explanation of the Parable of the Weeds.

The Parable of the Weeds Among the Wheat

1. He said in reply, “He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the Kingdom.
2. The weeds are the children of the Evil One, and the enemy who sows them is the Devil.

Judgement

1. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his Kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.
2. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
3. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father.

Summary

Whoever has ears ought to hear. Do you have ears?

Reflection

1. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his Kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.
2. [From last Saturday] The judgment of God alone will eliminate the sinful. Until then there must be patience and the preaching of repentance. (NABRE commentary)

Personal Reflection

It is the job of angels to separate the good from the bad and they do so only at the direction of the Lord on the Final Judgement. Until then there must be patience and the preaching of repentance. (NABRE commentary)

A frustrated old school teacher once said, “Teaching would be fun it not for the children.” LOL. A tongue-in-check statement to be sure. But it does reveal a basic truth. We are all children. We all pass through or are in our ‘terrible twos‘. Patience, patience. People grow up.

Never forget to be PATIENT means BOTH:

1. able to accept or tolerate delays, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.

2. a person receiving or registered to receive medical treatment.
