Summary
All week I have been reflecting here in this blog on our generosity. The Lord is aware of our inherent need to be generous and deep within us the divine capacity to follow the way of the Cross. The Lord see and approves our acts of generosity. In our readings today, we see how the Lord in his holy scripture how he notices and approves of the generosity of those without power and without resources: poor widows. These acts of generosity steeped in kindness are noted for us for all time and expanded to include all women.
From our poverty
- The widow of Zarephath.
- A poor widow in the Temple also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.
- Mary Magdalene wiped Jesus’ feet with her hair, tears and oil.
- Mary of Bethany anointed Jesus’ feet with her hair, tears and oil.
- Veronica wipes the face of Jesus.
It is true Jesus said (in a sense about all these women) Amen, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be spoken of, in memory of her. Of them. Of all who give from their poverty and the depths of their heart.
Reflection
Let us share from our poverty – that is – the most precious and interior of ourselves. Our poverty is the place where the Lord lives in us, the seat of love.

First Reading
For the LORD, the God of Israel, says, ‘The jar of flour shall not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, until the day when the LORD sends rain upon the earth.'” She left and did as Elijah had said. She was able to eat for a year, and he and her son as well; the jar of flour did not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, as the LORD had foretold through Elijah.

A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, “Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.
