Greetings on this the American Thanksgiving Day
Readings: Sir 50:22-24; PS 145:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11; 1 Cor 1:3-9; Lk 17:11-19
Summary
The readings today were chosen to aid us in celebrating Thanksgiving as a nation, community and family. We all have different traditions in naming God and following the middle way. But we know how to say thank you. To the one we cannot see, to the neighbor who struggles and the family we were given.
Remember this: you marry a stranger. Then they become a life partner. Then you cannot imagine life without them. I am most grateful for this truth! Love is a crossing of a boundary. A journey of hearts out of themselves and toward the Other of themselves.
Fire of Love!
Blessing and Praise
And now, bless the God of all,
who has done wondrous things on earth;
Who fosters people’s growth from their mother’s womb,
and fashions them according to his will!
May he grant you joy of heart
and may peace abide among you;
May his goodness toward us endure in [Our Country]
to deliver us in our days.
Thanksgiving for Blessing
Jesus said in reply,
“Ten were cleansed, were they not?
Where are the other nine?
Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?”
Then he said to him, “Stand up and go;
your faith has saved you.”
Personal Reflection
Give thanks to God in any way you know how.
Then… Stand up and go; your faith has saved you.
