Be perfect

Greetings on this the Saturday of the First Week of Lent
Readings: Deuteronomy 26:16-19; Psalm 119:1-2, 4-5, 7-8; Matthew 5:43-48

Summary

But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.

So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.

The Way of Perfection

The way of perfection is the law to which we are saying that all of the Torah, Prophets, Psalms, and New Testament is summed up in the love and prayer for your enemies. All these things then are to be understood by the standard of forgiveness and prayer.

Next time you read sacred scripture or have someone quote scripture to you, if it fails the love your enemies and pray for your enemies test, it is of little value.

That is the challenge.

Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
