Greetings on this the Tuesday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Readings: Genesis 32:23-33; Psalm 17:1b, 2-3, 6-7ab, 8b and 15; Matthew 9:32-38
Summary
…and when the demon was driven out the mute person spoke (MT 9:33).
Reflection
Gospel of Matthew chapter 8 contains specific healing acts of Jesus.
- The Healing of a Paralytic.
- The Official’s Daughter and the Woman with a Hemorrhage.
- The Healing of Two Blind Men.
- The Healing of a Mute Person.
The capstone is The Compassion of Jesus (pray to send out laborers to do the same).
Personal Reflection
The Church is filled with mute people. Unwilling to speak up for the disenfranchised, displaced and disregarded.
How many homilies ignore the crisis of muteness? Would you be scandalized if I said of us we are a demoniac who could not speak [needing to be] brought to [Jesus] (MT 9:32)? How then are we to understand ourselves?
