Greetings on this the Memorial of Saint Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church
Readings: Colossians 1:1-8; Psalm 52:10, 11; Luke 4:38-44

Summary

The crowds went looking for him (Lk 4:42).

In our gospel portion today we have the scene of Jesus healing Peter’s Mother-in-law and, at sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him.
He laid his hands on each of them and cured them.

This particular gospel passage has very deep effect on me. I have been in the presence of others who are healing great numbers of people and doing so in remote locations. This gospel passage reminds me of the healing power of the Lord for people far and wide.

Are they finding Jesus in you?

Personal Reflection

I think everyone can relate to their life’s path as being different from the plans we had? I wanted to be a Forest Ranger. My skills do not lend itself to such an endeavor. The fact is my career and life’s journey is so different than what I imagined.

This mishmash of a life becomes amazing whenever I yield to the Lord and let him guide me in his paths. Then, wow, who-da-thought?

He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them (Lk 4:39).

But he said to them, “To the other towns also I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent.” (Lk 4:41).

I assure you. The crowds are looking for you, too. And in the power of Jesus’ person and Sonship, we can bring forward the Kingdom of God.

      The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear?
      The Lord is my life’s refuge; of whom should I be afraid?

      Father, your Son accepted our sufferings to teach us the virtue of patience in human illness. Heat the prayers we offer for our sick brother, Jesse. May all who suffer pain, illness, or disease realize that they have been chosen to be Saints and know that they are joined to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world.

      We ask this through Christ our Lord.
      Amen.

      May this thorn in the flesh lose its power over you. May you conquer it with the power of Christ.
      Amen.

      And may Almighty God bless you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (tou T)
