Invitatory
Come, let us celebrate the birth of the Virgin Mary, let us worship her Son, Christ the Lord.
Antiphon 1
We commemorate the birth of the blessed Virgin Mary, a descendant of Abraham, born of the tribe of Judah and of David’s seed.
Antiphon 2
When the mot holy Virgin was born, the whole world was made radiant; blessed is the branch and blessed is the stem which bore such holy fruit.
Antiphon 3
Let us joyfully celebrate the birth of the blessed Mary so that she may intercede for us before Jesus Christ the Lord.
Antiphon of the Canticle of Zechariah
Your birth, O Virgin Mother of God, proclaims joy to the whole world, for from you arose the glorious Son of Justice, Christ our God: de freed us from the age-old curse and filled us with holiness; he destroyed death and gave us eternal life.
Prayer
Father of mercy,
give your people help and strength from heaven.
The birth of the Virgin Mary’s Son
was the dawn of our salvation.
May this celebration of her birthday
Bring us closer to lasting peace.

Franciscan Reflection on the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Reflection
We can see every human birth as a call for new hope in the world. The love of two human beings has joined with God in his creative work. The loving parents have shown hope in a world filled with travail. The new child has the potential to be a channel of God’s love and peace to the world.
This is all true in a magnificent way in Mary. If Jesus is the perfect expression of God’s love, Mary is the foreshadowing of that love. If Jesus has brought the fullness of salvation, Mary is its dawning.
