I’m a Leper

Not an actual photo of what I look like. Close enough!

Greetings on this the Memorial day of Saint Josaphat, Bishop and Martyr
Readings: Wisdom 6:1-11; Psalm 82:3-4, 6-7; Luke 17:11-19

Summary

In our sacred readings today, three major points:

  1. You are Gods – given to judge rightly.
  2. You have power – and will be judged accordingly.
  3. You are cleansed and cared for by the Lord (Ten Lepers = all of us) – do you have gratitude for the graces given you?

I said: “You are gods, all of you sons of the Most High; yet like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.” (PS 82:6-7).

Give ear, you who have power over multitudes and lord it over throngs of peoples! Because authority was given you by the Lord and sovereignty by the Most High, who shall probe your works and scrutinize your counsels! Because, though you were ministers of his kingdom, you did not judge rightly, and did not keep the law, nor walk according to the will of God, Terribly and swiftly he shall come against you, because severe judgment awaits the exalted (Wis 6:2-5).

Jesus said in reply, “Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God? (LK 17:17-18).

Reflection

In this age of deflection and blaming the Other for all my miseries, the Lord makes straight the reality. We are the masters of our own destiny. We have the capacity to judge rightly, we have the power to act rightly, we have the obligation to be grateful for the wonderful gifts given.

All of us are give grace (actual, sanctifying, sacramental and charismatic).

We have:

  • We have actual grace to do good.
  • We have sanctifying transformation to become holy.
  • We have sacramental (seven sacraments) of particular graces.
  • We have charismatic graces – unique and personal gifts – the YOU of you.

Personal Reflection

I am a leper. The Lord heals me of leprosy every day. One day, through this habit of seeking holiness, the work will be completed.
