See with the Heart

Greetings on this the Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Readings: Malachi 3:19-20a; Psalm 98:5-6, 7-8, 9; 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12; Luke 21:5-19

Summary

What do you see? That is the question for the entire week this week. We will see, and always see, the noisy, bombastic, secular, and the selfish make lots of noise. They try to control us with chaos and division meanwhile hatching their evil plots. Concentrate instead on the really-real. On the See the Divine love and then acting accordingly.

“All that you see here—the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.” He answered, “See that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’ Do not follow them! (Lk 2:6,8).

Sunday (writing this Monday morning) was the last ‘green’ Sunday in Ordinary Time. Next sunday is Christ the King and week after the culmination of the liturgical year. So from today until Christ the King Sunday week, the question of See Jesus for who He is.

  • Monday – Blind man sees Jesus (restoration).
  • Tuesday – Zacchaeus, a tax collector, sees Jesus (return).
  • Wednesday – Servant, who did not invest in humanity – did not see – Jesus (acedia, apathy, fear).
  • Thursday – City of Jerusalem, cannot see peace (they do not yearn for peace, only power).
  • Friday – Chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people, cannot see a way to kill Jesus (opposed to seeing, seeking war).
  • Saturday – Some of the scribes saw Jesus in his answer to the nature of heaven (Seeing him in light of Eschatological hope).

Reflection

Seeing is in the eye of the beholder (a twist on “Beauty is in…)

A dark, overripe banana with the text 'If this can become banana bread, you can become a saint.'
If this rotting banana can become banana bread, you can become a saint.

Behold See the Lord, who made Heaven and Earth.

Personal Reflection

My hope this week is seeing Jesus and his good works and participating in the restoration of humanity. Regardless of the noise and projections, seeing peace and restoration.
