Greetings on this the Tuesday of the Thirty-third Week in Ordinary Time
Readings: 2 Maccabees 6:18-31; Psalm 3:2-3, 4-5, 6-7; Luke 19:1-10
Summary
[Regarding Eleazar] This is how he died, leaving in his death a model of courage and an unforgettable example of virtue not only for the young but for the whole nation. [Regarding Jesus] God loved us, and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. [Regarding Zacchaeus] But Zacchaeus stood there. [Regarding believers] When I lie down in sleep, I wake again, for the LORD sustains me (2 Mac 6:31, 1 John 4:10b, Lk 19:8a, PS 3:6).
Reflection
In our gospel portion today, Zacchaeus, who was a chief tax collector and short in stature, had the courage to see Jesus, to talk with Jesus, and to make amends with the entire world, specifically, but Zacchaeus stood there and PUBLICLY listed his sins and his amends so filled with Joy he was that Jesus came to his house.
Personal Reflection
So what do I offer you today? En-couragement! Have courage!
- Eleazar had courage.
- Jesus had courage.
- The Psalmist had courage.
- Zacchaeus had courage.
Jesus has come to your house. Receive him with Joy. Joy and love allow us to come clean and make amends. It’s love that heals the wounds we inflict on others and ourselves.
