Greetings on this the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God
The Octave Day of the Nativity of the Lord
Readings: Numbers 6:22-27; Psalm 67:2-3, 5, 6, 8; Galatians 4:4-7; Luke 2:16-21

Summary

We recount the Nativity during the Christmas Octave from a small collection of gospel stories. A small collection but magnificent in meaning.

Keep these things in your heart. The Nativity, the shepherds, the Angel, the Choir of Angels and the blessed family as we followed their path to Bethlehem.

And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart (Lk 2:19). All these marvelous receptions of her child. The shepherds giving praise and keeping these things in their hearts as well.

But you, Bethlehem-Ephrathaha least among the clans of Judah, From you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel; Whose origin is from of old, from ancient times (Mi 5:1-4).

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption. As proof that you are children,* God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God (Gal 4:4-7).

Reflection

We would do well like Mary and the shepherds to keep in our heart the wonders of God’s love and praise Him with song now and forever.

A Blessing for 2026

The LORD bless you and keep you!
The LORD let his face shine upon
you, and be gracious to you!
The LORD look upon you kindly and
give you peace!

Amen!
