Three Kings Day

The Epiphany of the Lord (Three Kings’ Day).

In Guatemala the day is not transferred to the Sunday.

Today’s gospel portion: When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.”

May he be in the tabernacle of your heart. Amen.
May he restore his tent within you. Amen.
May your soul’s disquiet find peace as you find him. Amen.

And may Almighty God bless you,
In the name of the Father,
the Son,
and the Holy Spirit.

Santa Eulalia (Thursday Late)

On a Christmas Weekday

Today’s gospel portion (another selection): Jesus decided to go to Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the town of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law, and also the prophets, Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”

Follow him. Bring your friends and family too.

I think we go to Soloma on the way back.

Quetzaltenango, Thursday

On a Christmas Weekday

Today’s gospel portion: Jesus answered and said to him, “Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this.” And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

Be open to the miraculous!

If I understand the plan correctly. We stop at Huehuetenango on the way to Santa Eulalia. This map is from the airport not the city proper but gives the general idea.

Passing on the Faith

In this modern era we forget. In times past education was only for the wealthy and well placed. Reading and writing for the people was rare and limited. Yet the church communicates the salvation story through music, art, sculpture. And most of all, Eucharist Exposition. Enjoy these photos not as extravaganza but as eloquent loving teaching to those without literacy. All of us but especially for them, a gift from the Church. To know, to know with grandeur, God’s love for them.

Each painting depicts a scene from the life of Jesus.

Santiago Atitlán

On a Christmas Weekday

Today’s gospel portion: “Behold, the Lamb of God.”

Plans change. Actually ended up at 2A Avenida, Panajachel 07000. A tourist area. Certainly comfortable and luxurious. Tomorrow (today) boat tour then driving to next location. I have never holiday with a group before. Very nice. Fr Quesnel is excellent leader and planner.

Santiago Atitlán (Panajachel, actually)

Santiago Atitlán was the site of considerable state-sponsored violence during the country’s civil war. Some of the most notable incidents that occurred during the war include the assassination of Roman Catholic priest Stanley Rother by right-wing death squads on 28 July 1981, and the massacre of 14 people (and wounding of 21 others) when the Guatemalan Army opened fire on a crowd of unarmed civilians on 2 December 1990. Who are you?

Mission Trip to Guatemala – Begins
On the Memorial of Saints Basil the Great and Gregory Nazianzen, Bishops and Doctors of the Church

In the Christmas Season having just completed the Octave of the Nativity.

From today’s gospel portion: Who are you?

I am one of many that proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.
I am the voice of one crying out in the desert, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”

I am part of a travel delegation from Sacred Heart of Jesus, Lake Worth Beach, FL.

There is a mix of personal and parish goals for this trip:

  1. Parish mission on Three Kings’ Day (annual event, my first. I am not a major contributor to this effort).
  2. Assist Father Quesnel Delvard on his trip (I am escorting him as his deacon).
  3. Continue my Pilgrimage of the Diaspora Start Point in Guatemala. See blog trips 2022 tag Pilgrimage.
  4. Diaspora aid and assistance.
  5. Swimming education.
  6. Cathedral and sightseeing.
