Greetings on this the Friday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time
Readings: 1 Kgs 19:9a, 11-16; PS 27:7-8a, 8b-9abc, 13-14; Mt 5:27-32
Notes: In today’s readings we see the Holy Spirit in action where He makes the biggest changes, the human heart. The Holy Spirit goes to the hidden recesses of our heart and bring healing.
Remember, Jesus’ teachings are the base from which the Holy Spirit takes us further.
See sacred Scripture below.
“I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name — he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you (Jn 14:25-26).
If Jesus is the Great Physician than the Holy Spirit is a Specialist, in a manner of speaking.
First reading
Elijah came to a cave, where he took shelter [yet fearful for his life].
“Go outside and stand on the mountain before the LORD; the LORD will be passing by.”
Wind
A strong and heavy wind was rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the LORD — but the LORD was not in the wind.
Earthquake
After the wind there was an earthquake — but LORD was not in the earthquake.
Fire
After the earthquake there was fire — but the LORD was not in the fire.
Whisper
After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound. When he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went and stood at the entrance of the cave. A voice said to him, “Elijah, why are you here?”
Why are you here?
Here we see the Holy Spirit comes to the secret place, and the secret part of our person and asks the most important of all questions. Why are you here?
- Who am I? A child of the Most High.
- Why am I? I am a child of a loving God who loved me into existence.
- What is my final end? to live in the Lord in this life and in the life to come.
Responsorial Psalm
I long to see your face, O Lord.
Alleluia Verse
Shine like lights in the world,
as you hold on to the word of life.
Gospel Portion
Jesus has us ask the deepest questions as well.
In the Holy Spirit we can answer safely and with healing.
- Whom do you love?
- How do you love?
- For whom and how do we violate love?
You’ve been referred to the Specialist by the Great Physician. Listen to him.
Peace be with you,
Deacon Gerry
