Greetings on this the Tuesday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time
Readings: 2 Cor 8:1-9; Ps 146:2, 5-6ab, 6c- 7, 8-9a; Mt 5:43-48
Notes: In today’s first reading St Paul reflects on generosity experienced and in the gospel Jesus reveals the generosity of G-d that we should strive to follow.
He calls out some basic subtle contours of divine generosity and how men may be children of the heavenly Father:
- Singleness of purpose – moved by love, with love, for the good of the Other.
- Spontaneity – an immediate and reflexive action.
- Simplicity – he causes the sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
- Sincerity – there is no advantage, alliance or acquisition with the Lord. Only pure and perfect intent.
So [strive to] be perfect [according to your capacity and competency], just as your heavenly Father is perfect.
First Reading
For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that for your sake he became poor although he was rich, so that by his poverty you might become rich.
Responsorial
Praise the Lord, my soul!
The LORD gives sight to the blind. The LORD raises up those who were bowed down; the LORD loves the just. The LORD protects strangers.
Gospel Acclamation
I give you a new commandment: love one another as I have loved you.
Gospel
For if you [only] love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father.
Peace be with you,
Deacon Gerry
