From Faith to Love

Greetings on this the Memorial of Saint Charles Lwanga and companions, martyrs
Readings: 2 Pt 1:2-7; Ps 91:1-2, 14-15b, 15c-16; Mk 12:1-12

Summary

In the second letter of Saint Peter, Apostle, we are given a recipe for strengthening faith or, more accurately, the completion of faith is Love.

Reflection

Virtue is a high moral standard. Not for judging others, but for own faith, ourselves.
What then will the owner of the vineyard do? From our gospel portion today, we are given a specific understanding.

• Those who lead must be faithful having [grown in] expressions of virtue, knowledge, self-control, endurance, devotion, mutual affection and love.
• Those who lead without these virtues, He will come, put the tenants to death, and give the vineyard to others.

Personal Reflection

If we deign to be virtuous, we walk toward God. An odd way to say it, yes. Peter wants us to understand the completion of faith is love.

To remember an old adage. If you are wearing roller skates on a hillside. You either move forward or you will most certainly go backwards.

First Reading

Make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, virtue with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with devotion, devotion with mutual affection, mutual affection with love.

In you, my God, I place my trust.
