Summary
It is futile to think all things are futile. Nice play on words there, if I do say so myself! LOL.
No, all things are marvelous on this Earth that we are a part of and is a part of us.
Heresy ahead (not really, but some will think it).
Pagans aren’t wrong about many things. We are of the Earth and the Earth is of us. All matter and energy is interconnected. Things cycle and recycle. There is a bond between all created things and a link, however defined, to the eternal and that which is beyond the sense. Further, it does matter how we treat each other and how we treat Mother Earth.
If we don’t understand it, why try?
Reflection
We try because excellence is a characteristic of our being. We strive for excellence, each according to our capabilities. Spiritual unity in the Living God is something we should encourage in ourselves and in those like-minded.
Struggle is not a reason for futility
I wish for you the course of the Psalmist who struggles with everything we do: Seventy is the sum of our years, or eighty, if we are strong, And most of them are fruitless toil, for they pass quickly and we drift away.
Hope is a core to human personhood
And yet, because we were Caused by Love: Fill us at daybreak with your kindness, that we may shout for joy and gladness all our days. Let your work be seen by your servants and your glory by their children.
Common Good is a central human imperative
Sure, pay your taxes and be good citizens and work for the common good. This is our common obligation, at the minimum. “Bring me a denarius to look at.” They brought one to him and he said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” They replied to him, “Caesar’s.” So Jesus said to them, “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.”
You belong to God. God belongs to you.
Personal Reflection
I need positive reinforcement. I get discouraged. I get upset. I get dour. This is a part of my makeup. Sorry, dudes.
But, thank God, always Hope. Always confidence in the One who made us. Always certain that, and I invite my pagan friends to join me, the Earth, and the Universe are always not toward decomposition, although that is the immediate effect, but to regeneration and renewal. We will always be.
Strive for your excellence and see the Living God.
