You Goyim, your utter ignorance – utterly pathetic

Gollum- a pathetic soul. This is what he sees.

Greetings on this the Wednesday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time
Readings: EPH 3:2-12; IS 12:2-3, 4BCD, 5-6; LK 12:39-48

Introduction

Finding your authentic self

There is a fellow, with an internet id of mosckerr, who reads my blog and responds. His comments fall into the Spam folder due to his writing style. I read them anyway. You don’t see his responses (they remain in the spam folder) as they are deep reflections of his nationalist, political and religious opinions so foreign in thought process to the American religious experience. Plus he is extremely rude. I wrote him once about his offensive writing style (name calling, insulting references) and subsequently he toned it down. Now I am simply You Goyim, your utter ignorance – utterly pathetic. In the USA the term Goyim is considered offensive although its technical meaning is not (simply Non-Jew).

His writings are worth reading for me because it gives me insight to his perspective both Jewish historical and Jewish theological memory. Some of the details and explanations are interesting and informative. His presentation excludes his missives from the comments section.

Summary

I am a Goyim, utterly ignorant – utterly pathetic, as so charitably described by a reader.. I do embrace the Apostle Paul and his emerging theological perspective in the nascent Christian sect of Judaism. I do embrace the Nicene creed. Sorry. More to the point I see the words of Jesus in the gospel portion today as central to the salvation of humans.

The pronouncement of mortal man: “I am weary, O God;
I am weary, O God, and I am exhausted.
I am more brute than human being,
without even human intelligence;
Neither have I learned wisdom, nor have I the knowledge of the Holy One (PV 30:1-3).

Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.

What has been given?

  1. Personal capabilities and capacities.
  2. The inscrutable riches of Christ (whoever you deem him to be).
  3. The mystery of love.
  4. The promise of heaven.
  5. Drawing water from the spring of salvation.
  6. Praising and thanking the Creator.
  7. Abstain from beating others, eat/drink to excess, getting drunk.

Reflection

The “Good News” (Gospel) is the unification of the hopes of all humanity rests in the Almighty who deigns to walk among us to that we might come to know him.

I am ignorant and pathetic. Yet some things I do know.

For as the churning of milk produces curds,
and the pressing of the nose produces blood,
the churning of anger produces strife (Pv 30:33).

Personal Reflection

Ministry is exhausting. I am unworthy, weary, exhausted, without intelligence, more brute than human, nor have I improved much these years. BUT Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more. What I have I share. To lift up and build new horizons.
