For What Shall We Pray?

Greetings on this the Wednesday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Readings: Deuteronomy 34:1-12; Psalm 66:1-3a, 5 and 8, 16-17; Matthew 18:15-20

A Brother Who Sins

Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again, amen, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (MT 18:18-20).

Reflection

Prayer heals the subject and the object.

The gospel portion today is about regulation of public behavior within the Christian community. It follows a time honored method of communication and escalation in resolving differing ideas about what is right and good. A necessary governance. A necessary judicial construct. A tarpit for those who consolidate power and place their own ideas above the divine imperative. Heed the warning of Moses, I have let you feast your eyes upon it, but you shall not cross over (Deut 34:4c). Moses struck the rock in anger rather than allow the divine will make its own path.

Personal Reflection

When I pray for ‘the end of abortion’ I pray in terms of the evaporation of the demand of convenience. The battle over law is a false flag. Jesus often pointed that out to his detractors of that day. Pray for conversion of souls in seeking the better Horizon.
