Greetings on this the Memorial of Saint Andrew Dŭng-Lạc, Priest, and Companions, Martyrs
Readings: Daniel 1:1-6, 8-20; Daniel 3:52, 53, 54, 55, 56; Luke 21:1-4
Summary
When Jesus looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins. He said, “I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.” (Lk 21:1-4).
Reflection
Who am I today? Who do I plan to be today?
- The poor widow who has offered her whole livelihood?
- The wealthy guy putting their offerings into the treasury?
In the first case, she gave her personhood.
In the second case, the surplus – that which is not of value to me.
Which is healthier? From our first reading today, Give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then see how we look in comparison with the other young men who eat from the royal table (Dan 1:12). Obedient to the dietary law they remain healthier than the others. A nice way of saying – following the Lord is a healthier life.
Personal Reflection
Is there surplus or heartfelt ministry? For today, which do you want to be: wealthy and shallow or poor and rich in spirit?
The better choice is to offer the self in obedience to the Lord and forging right relation.

Amén, este post me recuerda la anécdota de un niño pobre que no tenía dinero para ofrendar a Dios en la iglesia y le pidió al diácono que bajara hasta el suelo el platillo de las ofrendas y cuando lo hizo el niño se subió al plato para ofrecerle su vida misma a Dios.
Esta es la mejor ofrenda, nosotros mismos, siempre lo recuerdo, gracias por esta bella reflexión.

Yes that is the way it goes, rich people give little, the poor give more, especially in this case. I would rather be comfortable and give some.
