Greetings on this the Thursday of the Third Week of Easter
Readings: Acts 8:26-40; Psalm 66:8-9, 16-17, 20; John 6:44-51
Summary
I am the living bread that came down from heaven;
whoever eats this bread will live forever;
and the bread that I will give
is my Flesh for the life of the world.”
Reflection
- Then many of his disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?” (Jn 6:60).
- What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? (Jn 6:62) – The promise of Ascension Sunday.
- And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always (Jn 14:16) – Pentecost outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
Personal Reflection
Jesus never asks us to have faith completely devoid of evidence and presence. Promises made. Promises delivered.
Jesus does not ask for irrational belief but for trust grounded in His works, His promises, and their fulfillment.
The Gospel of John had the “Signs” and the verification promises: Resurrection, Ascension and Pentecost – attested in the Gospels and the Book of Acts.
Amen, amen, I say to you – the Lord God, Father, loves us and is present with us in His Son, Jesus, and in His Spirit, the Advocate.
