Unexpected

Greetings on this the Memorial of Saint Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
Readings: 1 Thessalonians 3:7-13; Psalm 90:3-5a, 12-13, 14 and 17; Matthew 24:42-51

Summary

An unexpected day and at an unknown hour (MT 24:50b).

Reflection

I can only speak for myself. Each day in ministry is filled with the unexpected. The key is to keep the divine imperative first when responding to the unexpected. I’m under the seal so I cannot speak specifically about today. But rest assured, focusing on distributing food at the proper time, is the point.

Personal Update

At 1519 to AT 1756

In the middle of preparation training to restart the Appalachian Trail very soon. I can off the trail due to injury at end of June but now I am sufficiently rested to attempt the next section, MA and VT. The mountains close soon due to winter weather (Katahdin closes October 15th or sooner depending on snowfall). Finished 1,520 miles of the total of 2,200 rounded up.

Blog category is ATNOBO25 (continuing from the Spring).

Prayerful Days

Evert trip I take, there is a spiritual theme for contemplation and meditation. The past weeks, the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary.

So many blessings and illuminations!

Visited my 85 y/o Aunt, providing a Communion Service for her and our common faith journey. Many others from the trail in the prayer.

Happily, it coincided with low temperatures and high winds. Tomorrow: Bear Mountain.

The Appalachian Trail needs qualified interfaith chaplains. IMHO. While I’m on the trail, we have at least one.

Week Three

Finished Pennsylvania,  New Jersey. When I was trying take a photo during a thunderstorm,  the cell phone zapped out. This is a replacement phone. Cheap one. Really wanted the fire tower phototherapy near the Mohican center. Danf6. Lost all messages that were stored locally.

So far on trail… saw these:

  • Beaver
  • Beaver dam
  • Deer
  • Fawn
  • Porcupine
  • Fox foot trail
  • Redbelly woodpeckers
  • Rattlesnakes
  • Other snakes
  • Otters
  • Turkey
  • Wild chickens
  • Toads
  • Frogs
  • Salamander
  • Bogs
  • No bear yet… Bear Mountain in a few days.
