Horizons

Greetings on this the Feast of Saint Thomas, Apostle
Readings: Eph 2:19-22; PS 117:1bc, 2; Jn 20:24-29
Notes: I am considering writing on the topic of pastoral care of women in crisis pregnancies. The legal rights of women have become the cornerstone of the dialog whereas the pastoral care of women is the actual strength of humanity. We need to switch that out.

There were three types of Israelites crossing the Red Sea.

  • One: They walked with their head hung low and as the walked all they saw was mud, muck an dead fish at their feet. The journey lasted as if forever.
  • Two: They walked with their eyes left and right at the wall of water they walked through. It must have been an amazing sight even seeing fishes swimming by. But they focused on the minor to the major. The journey would be rapid, preoccupied but changing nothing in them.
  • Three: They walked with their eyes fixed on the horizon with Moses at the very end standing there encouraging them on. For this group the walk was other worldly. They entered into the promise, fixed their sight firmly on the horizon where He was and where they want to be.

First reading
You are no longer strangers and sojourners,
but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones
and members of the household of God.

Responsorial Psalm
(Mark 16:15) Go out to all the world and tell the Good News.

Alleluia Verse
You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me, says the Lord;
blessed are those who have not seen, but still believe!

Gospel Portion
Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve
, had a low horizon.

Keep your eyes on the Horizon.

Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.

Peace be with you,
Deacon Gerry
