Ruler and Judge

Greetings on this the Memorial of Saint Bonaventure, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
Readings: Exodus 2:1-15a; Psalm 69:3, 14, 30-31, 33-34; Matthew 11:20-24

Summary

Who has appointed you ruler and judge over us? (Ex 2:14)

Not me! The Lord.

• But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you (MT 11:22).
• But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you (MT 11:24).

The Lord Saves (Psalm 69:3, 14, 30-31, 33-34)

I am sunk in the abysmal swamp
where there is no foothold;
I have reached the watery depths;
the flood overwhelms me.

But I pray to you, O LORD,
for the time of your favor, O God!
In your great kindness answer me
with your constant help.

But I am afflicted and in pain;
let your saving help, O God, protect me;
I will praise the name of God in song,
and I will glorify him with thanksgiving.

“See, you lowly ones, and be glad;
you who seek God, may your hearts revive!
For the LORD hears the poor,
and his own who are in bonds he spurns not.”

Reflection

We don’t judge. But we are not lacking in the power to see and speak truth. We prefer to have hearts that like the psalmist today, praising the Lord for his great love!

Personal Reflection

For if the mighty deeds done in your midst … For if the mighty deeds done in your midst (MT 11:21, 23).

Here is the thing. May I always marvel and respond to the marvelous and might things the Lord has done for me, you, our community, people near and far! May I not be so cold hearted as to not recognize the wonderous works the Lord has done!
